Overview
The Maryborough Landfill facility, managed by the council, is responsible for receiving all the commercial and domestic waste from the Fraser Coast region. As part of a continued expansion of the current landfill operation, the council has mandated the construction of a new lined landfill cell at the Maryborough Landfill. The said facility is located on the outskirts of the city’s northern region, off the Saltwater Creek Road.
The project is connected to previous stages that are now partly filled and includes several works, such as the clearing of light vegetation, the bulk excavation and placement of existing waste material elsewhere on the site, and the importation and placement of general fill to form the cell subgrade. The work will also include the supply and placement of drainage gravel and associated geosynthetic reinforcement, separation geotextile and strip drains to manage potential groundwater and leachate inflow. In addition, general fill will be imported and placed from two Hervey Bay airport stockpiles.
Other works will involve the supply and placement of compacted select clay, Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL), Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE), and geotextile to form the cell liner, and the construction of the anchor trench for the three layers of Geosynthetics.
The Geotechnical Services Hervey Bay team are proudly providing level 1 supervision and material quality testing.
